AC Power Plugs and Sockets

Poland uses a 230-volt 50Hz system, sockets have the European standard and plugs are three-prong grounded.

Cell Phones

Participants are kindly requested to turn off or switch their cell phones to silent mode in the meeting rooms where scientific sessions are held.

City Transport

Travelling by Poland city transport is possible with a valid ticket only. Passengers can buy public transport tickets at newsstands, Passenger Service Centres and ticket machines, which can be found on most buses, in the new trams, at underground stations and near stops. Tickets can also be purchased using a mobile phone. Tickets must be validated immediately after boarding a bus or tram, or at the gates leading to metro platforms.

The Warsaw metropolitan area is divided into urban zone “1” (within the city boundary) and suburban area “2”.

Ticket prices – zone 1:
• 75-minute ticket – 4,40 PLN, reduced fare – 2,20 PLN
• One-day ticket (valid 24h from the moment of validating the ticket): standard – 15,00 PLN, reduced fare – 7,50 PLN
• Three-day ticket: standard – 36,00 PLN, reduced fare – 18,00 PLN

Currency

Polish zloty (PLN) is the official currency of Poland Exchange of foreign currency is available at Warsaw International Airport and most hotels, banks and exchange offices throughout the city. International credit cards are accepted for payments in hotels, restaurants and shops. Payment in cash in EUR is also available in some restaurants and shops. Please ask for details on-site. Entry Formalities

All foreign visitors to the Poland must possess a passport valid for at least the next three months. Participants requiring visa should apply in advance to consular offices of Poland or diplomatic missions in their countries in order to avoid delay in travel to the Congress.

Insurance

The organizers can accept no liability for personal injuries or loss or damage to property belonging to the Workshop participants, either during or as a result of the event. Participants are advised to take out proper travel and health insurance before departing from their home country.

No-smoking

Smoking in the congress area is not allowed.

Shopping

Most shops in Warsaw are open from 9:00 to 21:00, Monday till Saturday. Shops in the city centre are usually open from 9:00 to 22:00, Monday till Sunday.

Time Zone

Poland is on Central European Time - Greenwich Mean Time (GMT) plus 1 hour. From April to October is summertime, i.e. GMT +2 hours.

Tipping

Service is usually included in the bill in bars and restaurants but tips are welcome. If you consider the service good enough to warrant a tip, we suggest about ten percent.

Language of the ELS 2025

The official language of the ELS 2025 is English. Translation services will not be provided.

Polish Language

Even though at all the hotels, shops and restaurants in Warsaw are English spoken, we include a few basic Polish words and sentences that can be useful during your stay in Warsaw.
